It’s a bit crowded on my nightstand. Tons of books, as you can see. Most are for classes, some for fun.
The Works of William Shakespeare–I love Shakespeare. (Any romantic would!) Once you get into the language, it’s just sooo romantic. Sigh. (But he can be funny, too!)
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I’m sorry, but Miss Havisham is all shades of creepy, sitting around in her wedding dress for how many years? And at the table with the rotting wedding feast? Another reason I don’t like her was because her ‘life’ ended when she was left at the altar. Really? Granted that was in the old days, but some women didn’t measure their life by having a guy!
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Go Jane! Even though she was fettered by societal customs, and weighed down by cumbersome dresses, did that stop her? No! Betrayed by almost everyone, she moved on and made the best of her situation. I admire her, as should all women! (No whining!)
Law of Business Organizations. I have to read this for Business Law. It’s not that bad, the cases are interesting. But not fun.
Sophocles (Three Plays) Call me crazy, but I love Greek plays. Antigone, and Oedipus Rex. They’re not hard to understand and it’s a peek into ancient thought and life (not that I’d want to have lived back then!).
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. This novel was depressing and heartbreaking, yet it showed the resilience of the human spirit. It amazes me what people can survive–if they want to.
Night, by Eli Wiesel. Humanity at its worst–the Holocaust. And its best–the will to survive, no matter what it takes.
The Illiad and The Odyssey by Homer. Although I liked the Odyssey, the Illiad is hard to get into. (Especially since our adventures with You Know Who.)
The rest are from mine and Meg’s biographers, Natalie and Charlotte. They know Alissa Grosso (Popular), Cyn Balog (Fairy Tale), Amy Holder (Lipstick Laws), Simone Elkeles (Leaving Paradise), and Cynthia Leitch Smith (Eternal). They want me to read so many others, but there just isn’t time. And there’s still more unread on my Kindle!
